NAHJASU Officers

Genesis Monserrate
President
Welcome to our site!
My name is Genesis Monserrate and I am a junior at the Walter Cronkite School. I became involved with NAHJ-ASU since freshman year. I speak both English and Spanish fluently and currently report on Borderland issues for Cronkite News/ Arizona PBS as well as Cronkite News En Español.
Get to know me and all the NAHJ-ASU officers by coming to the meetings! If you have any questions, please contact me at:gmonserr@asu.edu.

Carla Leon
Secretary
I go to Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Right now, I am working on developing my creative side through photography, along with anything else that is visual. I am also part of both our television programs, Cronkite News and Cronkite News en Español.
I am bilingual, where Spanish is my first language. My goal is to work for a Spanish Network--as a producer or reporter.
Through NAHJ, I have met a lot of people, some which are my mentors and who are guiding me through this journey. This is my last year in Cronkite and I am currently the secretary for the NAHJ chapter at ASU.
Every project fuels me to become a better journalist.

Celeste Ruiz

Celeste Ruiz is a senior at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University. Ruiz was born and raised in the small border town of San Luis, Arizona. Her career goals include becomng a producer. Ruiz has interned with PHXTV as a social media correspondent, and worked as a breaking news reporter for The Arizona Republic, covering the east valley. Ruiz is a current producing intern at 12News. In the fall of 2014, Ruiz studied at the Autonomous University of Barcelona in Spain for four months and completed a certificate in Spanish. Her dream job would be to incorporate her love of the language and journalism, and become a part of a Spanish television newscast.

She is from San Diego, California and is now living in Phoenix, Arizona. Clara is Latina, from Mexican and Honduran descent. She aspires to become a broadcast meteorologist and/or an investigative reporter for issues in Latin America.

Soyenixe Lopez
Treasurer
My name is Soyenixe Lopez and I am a 22-year-old aspiring journalist beginning my senior year at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism & Mass Communication. I am so excited to serve NAHJ as its new treasurer and I am so happy to be working along-side with some of the hardest working individuals I know who share the same interests as I do. I am currently majoring in Broadcast Journalism hoping to get into Spanish media upon graduation. My dream job is to write or make documentaries about people and tell their stories. Besides doing that, something that I would also like to do in the long run is to become an anchor for Telemundo or Univision. I have grown up watching these two networks since I was a little girl and I always picture myself as Maria Celeste, who is the main anchor for Al Rojo Vivo. I have been part of NAHJ for over a year now, and I love the great networking opportunities this organization provides its members with. Can't wait to see what this semester has in store for all of us!
